Tips from Shay!

Hey all!
So sorry I haven't gotten to update, I've been working my bum off and busy as ever! But I finally found some time today and will hopefully be able to continue giving general health, wellness, and fitness tips! If you have a question you'd like answered, please feel free to send me a message on my FB page! Look up Shay Magee, add me and let me know you found me through the BIGRIG BLOG!

So today's tip....
Are you feeling more fatigued than usual? Do you wake up not feeling rested?
Bodybuilders and fitness enthusiests consistantly are notorious for keeping their diets low in salt to prevent bloating. Well, although this is generally OK, there is a very important potassium/sodium balance that may very well be disrupted, making you feel tired, esp. in the mornings! This is because your aldosterone levels are low.
This is a pretty easy fix.
Allow yourself to use a small ammount of salt on your foods.
Also, my biggest tip-mix 1 tsp. salt (iodized or sea salt is best) in 80z water. Drink it right when you wake up in the morning. If you do feel better, you know your aldosterone levels were low, and a pinch of salt here and there-although the scale may move up a bit (temporarily, of course!), you'll feel better and be able to ROCK that morning cardio harder than ever!! :)
Although sea salt is better than regular, if you'd rather regular salt, make SURE it is iodized. Iodine is a vital nutrient for optimal thyroid functioning, and if you want to take that fat off, you better make sure that thyroid is kickin' in full gear!! Iodine is a main component of thyroid hormones, that and the amino acid L-tyrosine. Regular salt is generally non-iodized anymore, because it's cheaper to add in other "fillers" to salt that are actually damaging to your body.
Even if you take a multi and eat a healthy diet, you're probaly still not getting enough iodine. A supplement is a wise idea, if you suspect low thyroid function, and it can even reverse hypothyroidism.

Let me know how you like this blog, and keep me updated on YOUR progress!
xoxo
